The Cannonball Adderley Quintet – Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! - Live At "The Club"

I find myself wishing I was there in the club every time this hits the turntable. Just a fun, high energy recording!

Bad sounding version. Flat and poor. My only version of this LP but hope it’s not the best.

Here we have a very nice live jazz album with excelent musicians and entusiastisc public. The album is recorded well and this UK pressing sounds great.

If you try it, try it, try it you will like it, like it, like it. Nothing revolutionary here, just good soul jazz laid over some hard bop. My mono copy sounds egg sell lint. Cannonball and company make real smooth jazz! No offense intended the Kenny G fans btw.

Curious about Canonball’s releases, I am really impressed by this pressing! The songs are all very catchy, smooth and alive! A must have to get back to clubbing!

A nice groovy soul jazz/hardbop live set from Cannonball and the boys. Supposedly recorded at The Club in Chicago, the later notes here say this was recorded in front of a studio audience in Hollywood. That might explain why it sounds hyper live, as if they overdid the whole live audience thing, crowd noises, stage patter, audience participation, etc.

The individual playing is very strong, and soloists are energetic and explorative. Highlights include the Cannonball classics, "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", a tight soul funk piece called "Games", and "Sack 'O Woe".

This is a MONO recording and has a 3-dimensional soundstage. The mixing is not particularly clean, but it does emulate a live gig, which I think is what they were after. Zawinul's electric piano has some hair on it, particularly on the aforementioned "Mercy". Pressing is acceptable. No complaints.

This is just a fun record to listen to! I'm not a big Cannonball Adderley fan, but I did enjoy listening to this album all the way through. Apparently, it was recorded at the Capitol studios in L.A., not at 'The Club' in Chicago as the cover states.

Though the original liner notes state that it was recorded at the Club DeLisa in Chicago, it was actually recorded at Capitol's Hollywood studio with an invited audience and an open bar.[3] The reason for this discrepancy, according to the liner notes in the CD reissue, is that Adderley and the new manager of Club DeLisa (which had been renamed "The Club", after operating for years in Chicago under its old name) were friends, and Adderley offered to give the club a bit of free publicity.
