Notes

This Master Release Covers Leopold Stokowski's version from 1940/1957. For Irwin Kostal's version from 1982 see single package as part of "The Legacy Collection" in 2015

Official soundtrack of Walt Disney's 3rd animated feature film.

Originally recorded between 1938-40 (8 years before the introduction of Long Playing Vinyl disc), but its first official release was in 1957 (to coincide with 1956 stereo re-release of this film).

Initially released on 3 LPs, a 2 LP version was issued by 1981 by rearranging the track list order.

First official release of this soundtrack's version on Audio CD was in 1990. This release preserved original tracklist order and was on 2 CDs.

Additionaly, on Audio CD releases of both versions of this soundtrack, "The Pastoral Symphony" was divided into three parts.

Quite possibly the quietest record I own 😆 I have to run it at about 110 db volume to hear it comfortably

Just picked up a copy of this. 1957 version with “A Disneyland Record”. Instead of the three discs having blue Disneyland labels, one is blue, one is red and the other is grey. Can’t see any listing for this, does anyone have any info on this version?

Looks like the time stamps were taken from a different CD release. My Bald Mountain is very much not 7:25 long. more like 7:15. But the others are all the same for the most part. Like the a small part of the song was omitted, (though i cant tell where)

The chimes take place at 5:30 in my vinyl, but 5:40 on the CD. i have 2 copies, and both produce that length. 7:25 is definitely the length of the 2 disc CD that came with the VHS box set though.

All the other songs are within 2-3 seconds of accuracy, (Including Rite of Spring, which is 20+ minutes) and I attribute that difference to the small amount of silence i keep in the song when I digitize it vs the amount of silence in the CD. so its not playback speed of my table.

A staple of film soundtracks, and an essential piece of work for Disney and Orchestral fans alike. In of mono and stereo, I'd recommend trying to find both of them, since this album sounds great on both. The 1940 Fantasound stereo mix, however, is a lot more enjoyable with the context and choreography of the film, whilst the 1942 RKO mono mix works great as a standalone album. The mono mix also appears to be a dedicated mix as well, not a fold down of the Fantasound mix.

Wondering if someone could help me out.
I have inherited my mother's copy of this 1957 3xLP release STER-101. While listening to it I discovered there is an issue with the 2nd and third records. Side IV (D) is supposed to have "The Pastoral Symphony (The Sixth)" according to the label, but the track is actually "Dance of the Hours".
Side V on the second record of the release is also "Dance of the Hours", labeled correctly.
Given it was released in 1957 it is not like I can return it. Has anyone else ran into this?

Also side note: There is also an original postcard that came with the vinyl asking if I had an 8 MM projector at home :D

Even though this release says "Stereo" on the spine with the catalog number (and in the runout), it sure sounds pretty much like a Mono recording to me. The grooves on the record even looks like a Mono pressing...

Hello, I could use some help here.
I'm unable to identify my release. LP labels are red, and there is an unusual seal-like image that says "Otro disco Serrana" on several parts of the work. Same catalog number on Spine, WDX-101, on the runout groove it says: GB-4617 on every disc.

Thoroughly recommendable. I got a French Edition set from 1957 in a handsomely presented hardcover creamish-coloured 12 inch by 12 inch book, containing the 3-Lp's and complete with (French) text and full sized/whole page side cartoon images representing each track, eg. one for the Bach, another for Tchaikovsky etc etc. Looking at other photos on Discogs, it seems that the English language versions are identical in all but language and front cover (the blue design). Fantasia was made in 1940 and was one of the very first attempts in stereo sound. CD versions (and the later Lp ones) recreate this, but it sounds very crude, with - for example - two bars of the Bach fugue playing in the Left channel, to be followed by two bars in the Right, as if to 'show off what stereo can do'. I'd strongly suggest that it's a far more worthwhile listening experience listening in MONO (ie. make sure you buy an Lp version in mono, I don't just mean a stereo version played with an amplifier mono button pushed in!). Listening to the genuine mono is truly rewarding with no artificially contrived channel swopping, just straight performance. We are, after all, hearing what was possibly the world's finest orchestra at the time playing their best in a varied selection of classical music, recognisable to many and of instant interest/appeal. Take note also that some outlets offer the French Biblioteque National de (BNF) series of albums (all with general purpose red artwork alas), mostly transferred from now public domain recordings from that library. Some websites (eg. Qobuz) offer these s in high quality flac. as well as mp3 and a variety of formats. One such album is the mono version of Fantasia. I mention this to save those inclined to digitise all their vinyls a time-consuming job. The BnF transfers are fine! BUT, do go ahead and buy one of these old Lp sets, which are true collectors' pieces, finely presented. Lovely to own and of course play.
