Surprised there isn't an ongoing thread on this topic.
Can be vinyl, CD, whatever. At home, in the car, at the gym...what have you played today?
I've played three albums, all on vinyl:
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever
Boston - Third Stage
Bob Dylan - Biograph sides 7&8
It does help if the missus is out at work, time to crank it up in the man cave and enjoy! -

I'm not a fan of the man (even though I'm from Belfast too), but almost every artist eventually falls into mediocrity.
It's usually an initial 10-15 year creative spurt, then things slowly turn grey.
Take one of my favourite bands, Depeche Mode. From '80 - '93 they were incredible, but then the music simply became less interesting. To the point that I don't even own their last few albums.
I see it as a blessing that The Beatles broke up in '69. That 10 years they had together (ok minus Ringo for a while at the beginning) was creatively explosive.
They quit while they were ahead (although that was not their intention of course). -

Yes, Depeche Mode went through a sudden transformation I guess. From a rather D.I.Y.-style homemade synth-pop outfit, then through grunge and turned into a kind of world-beating U2 behemoth for the gothic-rock listener. Violator is easily their best album (IMO).
Abbey Road was indeed the pinnacle of The Beatles career and was back on Peppers/Revolver-type form following the blip that was The (White Album) Beatles with it's uneven smattering of classic pop, psych-rock, Goons-style novelty nonsense and downright weird experimental offerings (Revolution No.9). Each to... though etc. -

I'd say the best Depeche Mode album is split between Black Celebration and Violator. But yes, Violator is without doubt a crowning achievement.
It's funny you mention U2, as Depeche Mode really have become the U2 of the Synth Pop scene. Much like Bono, Dave Gahan still has the voice but the new music is just not up to par.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who never really enjoyed the White Album! After the majesty of Revolver & Pepper, the White Album was just too bloated. A single LP would have been nice, but even then it would not have touched the genius of that '66-'67 period.
And yes, Abbey Road was an incredible return to form. Almost like a final surge, just to proclaim they still "had it".
Let It Be was just a fart in the wind compared. -

I have a habit of really getting into a single genre for a few months, and then dropping it and getting into a completely new genre. I was previously listening to lots of dark ambient experimental stuff like Narkopop
But now I’ve moved on to disturbing my neighbors with ferociously aggressive bass lines of early jungle / drum&bass from 1992-1996. (This new 18 inch subwoofer needs to be broken in properly) -
