Earth (2) – Hibernaculum

Hibernaculum built on and expanded upon the new musical template Earth unveiled in Hex by reinstating the massive low end drones into their sound and showcasing a more straight forward and conventionally melodic riffing style.

The effect is similar to standing inside a massive bell as it's being rung; if played in a decently sized sound sytem, the bass frequencies will rattle your bowels while the expertly captured layers of golden guitar tones, vintage keyboards, horns, strings etc slowly and majestically unfurl themselves like some sort of psychedelic western reel.

Sound transformation occurred through Hex, induced Earth to rearrange some old songs with the new style: a sort of acid and dilated blues/post rock to be played live. Transferring on disc the rearrangements, the result is not as lysergic as Hex music is, but it’s more melancholic and doom. If Hex is the soundtrack of a western duel, with deep looking, suspended time, and slow surreal movements while wind blows away the dust, Hibernaculum is the movie ending, when the winner of the duel crosses a cemetery on horseback, and the sunset lights the tombs. Earth are capable to shape the pure vibration from the distorted impenetrable wall of sound of the past to the wide and extensive panorama of the present. Earth music has now an infinite depth of field, like an intense and emotive photo of American wilderness.
