6/10. This album can sound much better than this. The 2008 Back On Black is way better, and that's a lot to say, cause everybody knows BoB are not between the best sounding issues. Anyway the graphic quality on this relapse reissues is great and it's a good deal if you can get it cheap.

I’m not a die hard Death fan, so I don’t get into the weeds when it comes to the best pressing to own. I have their entire catalogue on vinyl as I do love the band, just not as die hard as others. For the person like me, this pressing is perfectly fine. Sounds good and easy to find.

Awesome Metal album! A truly legendary classic! This vinyl reissue sounds amazing just like the other 3 I own ( "Spiritual Healing," "Human," "Individual Thought Patterns."), I have 2 CD versions of "Sound Of Perseverance" 1998 Nuclear Blast CD and 2011 Relapse reissued CD and this 2016 vinyl version of the Relapse reissue sounds the best of all 3. Vinyl will always sound better and this is no different. If you love this album and don't know whether or not to buy this version I fully endorse this version and strongly suggest you get a copy! It's a fantastic high quality version of this all-time classic. All instruments shine through perfectly in this mix.

Edited 8 years agoAbout the two previous conversations on sound and mastering of this one:
1-Photos of the Relapse and Back On Black shows that Relapse´s press has a quite smaller area of grooves etched on it:
https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Death-The-Sound-Of-Perseverance/release/1574339
I always thought that, in case of having the same duration, the most area you use for etching the grooves will be better for sound quality, isn´t?
So, in case of being the same master, Back On Black one version would be better on that point. Anyway, very bad notice in my opinion. I´m not expecting great sound for it
2-I´m totally agree with redstingray1977, it just looks a flat CD transfer. That doesn´t mean that one shouldn´t buy this press, original record is too expensive and me, for example, don´t have it in any physical format. But I was actually expecting for a proper vinyl mastering for this, it isn´t asking that much for, Southern Lord does it most of its vinyl releases, for example.
Regarding this I don´t mind about people positive reviews of 2000´s era 12" CD reissues, even if they make up a majority. They´re on it for collecting, not for vinyl sound. -
Edited 8 years agoThis is a pressing of the 2011 remaster, it sounds like it and the years printed on the cover confirm it.
I don't have this exact pressing, I have the picture disc version (which isn't on here), but I'm assuming its exactly the same. -
I wouldn't hold my breathe about sound quality on this. Every Death reissue by Relapse so far has been a flat CD transfer of the Alan Douches remasters.
