This has been one of my better purchases in a world full of unsatisfactory purchases. Extremely pleased with the pressing. The album isn't new to me, so this is explicitly regarding the pressing. I'll reach for this over streaming in a heartbeat. I may have just been lucky, like some of the others below, but had to speak up for this one. It checks all the boxes for me: flat, crackle free, centered, killer mastering job. Gotta have good highs and lows for MJ.

Junk pressing - filthy straight out of the crappy paper sleeve. Low resolution / pixilated artwork, cheap thin record jacket. Just an abysmal effort from start to finish - and it sounds like a CD - not a record. Don’t waste your money. MPO are as bad as GZ, when it comes to QC and noisy vinyl.

One of my favorite albums by Michael Jackson. The recording is good with great details. The record itself is flat but with audible surface noise.

The birth of King of Pop, nice pressing. Quincy Jones arrangements are really subtle.

I was able to buy this really cheap (€7) in a Mediamarkt in Belgium. I guess the price gets explained because of the negative image hanging around Michael Jackson, culminating with the 2019 documentary (Leaving Neverland). Suddenly the big retail shops wanted to get rid of their stock of Jackson represses. That shows to me how they, understandably, keep an eye on the public interest for music sales. It seems to be the tricky aspect nowadays with Michael Jackson, can you separate his music from his private life, and how to do this? With a classic album like this one, I try to keep it simple: if you just listen, you can hear that he was a great musician, and honestly, his collaborations with Quincy Delight Jones are just gold.

pressing is flat and quiet, but I think it's lacking in high end definition and clarity, sounds a bit foggy in the upper highs and no shimmer. Bass is great, details come through perfectly in the upper mids, but something just seems a bit set back on the highs
I believe my pressing that has MPO'18' series would reflect a 2018 reissue? But there is no separate listing for a 2018 pressing on Discogs at the moment.

This is a very good pressing with very good dynamics and an overall nice stereophonic soundstage. This is not the best sounding release in my collection but certainly a very fine release plus it is inexpensive. Five out of five stars. [ Playing this using an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge ]
