Edited one year agoCompared a friends nimbus in mint condition to my 1980's MFSL also in mint condition in my triangle art reference tube pre & power mono blocks, FM phono stage & spiral groove turntable with schroeder lp arm. My friend was surprised at how good the mfsl sounded. Better than the nimbus in vocals, bass & overall presentation. He was of the opinion that my mfsl was an early pressing hot stamper as he has never heard the mfsl sounding this good. I also have the 2014 mono & early UK stereo pressing but my favourite is the mfsl by quite a bit. So there you go these things are subjective. I have the full collection of nimbus records except sgt peppers. Don't get me wrong the nimbus sgt peppers is also excellent. From my listening experinece the best nimbus record is the miles davis kind of blue album. Smokes the mofi, classical & UHQR versions. Meanwhile good luck in anyone chasing the sgt peppers nimbus. As for me I will not be paying the thousands of dollars for this rare gem.

Edited 4 years agoA truly beautiful representation of “....Pepper”! The pressing quality, as always with these “Supercuts”, is perfection, while the quality of the artwork is on par any of the U.K. 70’s pressings of the album (this version replicates the “Parlophone/EMI 2 Box” labels, but no “Fools” inner included I’m afraid). The mastering here, most importantly, is flawless! I read somewhere (maybe Steve Hoffman’s site) that elite Audiophiles don’t even consider these “Supercuts”, ever! I say poppycock! My opinion is that this “Supercut Pepper” blows all “MFSL” versions right out of the water, and leaves the Australian “Audio 5” sounding like some teenager had simply tinkered around with the bass and treble! Hell, it even challenges the original 67’ U.K. Stereo version, offering a much smoother mastering. All vocal distortion has been removed throughout the album, which was a real problem with the original U.K. 1st press Stereo. In short, the mastering on the “Nimbus Cut” is far less top heavy than on the 67’ original, and more carefully balanced and natural sounding than on any other attempt at the original Stereo mix of “...Pepper”. Great results were achieved here; a nicely balanced, smooth, and consistent mastering throughout, with no loss of 60’s “colour”, and wonderful separation. An “Audiophile’s” dream really if you ask me.....
