I bought this at 16 in 1983. This was the first record I had by them because I had thought them a group for gays and girls (no bad actually). I fell in love with this 12" single and this group from then on! Having vaguely heard this I was attracted to the fantastic cover and bought it. When I got this home I felt like I have been given some great gift! From the opening synth notes, its langorous beats, low slung, pouting bass to Marc's sharp vocal delivery, this record delivers. Numbers one-night-stand subject, drugs, seedy clubs plus empty promiscuity meant it suffered a BBC playlist ban due to the word 'speed' being used in it! The 12" version is an 11 minute beauty from this group and a low-slung club record of the first order! Barriers is also a brilliant, cold, beautiful track best heard in its full 12" version. We all know Soft Cell are a very important group in the history of electronic music - these two tracks being completely brilliant and good examples of why they are and remain so.
