Edited 2 years agoListening to the half speed remaster back to back with the following Masterdisk RL pressing:
https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/release/844094-Steely-Dan-Gaucho
I prefer the original Ludwig pressing a bit more. All the instrumentation feels warmly baked in together as a whole, while still being an impactful listen. On the half speed remaster, I'm left with the feeling that there is more separation between the individual instruments. To my ears, it's pronounced enough that it causes a slightly more processed soundstage, perhaps even drowning out the vocals slightly. -
