I really liked the first track "minipops 67" the first time I heard it. "XMAS_EVENT10" and "CIRCLONT14" are also really good. The rest of it kind of grew on me after a few listens. Much of the album has similarities to Rushup Edge, which he did as The Tuss. Old synths doing really crazy stuff. Kind of old school, in a good way. The last track "aisatsana" may seem out of place to those unfarmiliar, but it's like the quieter peices on Drukqs, and it's pretty nice. The only thing missing from this album is the more aggressive drum'n'bass type stuff, but a few songs like "CIRCLONT14" kind of dip into it. I definitely wouldn't say this is his strongest release, but there are a couple great tracks. Anyway, it's awesome to see music released under the Aphex Twin moniker. I'm really looking forward to whatever comes next.

Poor materials used for the digipak on this release. Feels like they just went to a Home Depot, buy some white cardboard paper and printed everything on it. Expect second hand copies for sale in the future to have stains and marks on them.

I would love to know the reasoning behind some of the one and two-star ratings this album gets. By no means is this a bad album -- in fact, it's a welcome return for RDJ under his Aphex alias, full of his trademark braindance funk and breaks. It partly avoids the hyper drill n bass that made up some of his previous albums, and instead allows him the chance to experiment with groovier, unabashedly melodic tracks that constantly evolve, yet revolve around a consistent palette of sounds. I also like that it increases in energy until it finally hits a jungle-inspired peak near the end that's as close to the aforementioned drill n bass as he comes.

It's as "fun" a record as you could want from him, with some moodier ages sprinkled in to keep things from being too over-the-top-smiley (including the sombre and beautiful piano piece “aisatsana [102]” that closes the album). This is purely James having fun in his studio, and the results are a pleasure to hear. If this is truly just a fraction of the unreleased material he has saved up, I can't wait to hear what he chooses to release next.

          Take this album.
          Shove it in your earhole.
          Bop or don't.
          Like or not.
          Bibbedy-bobbedy doo.
          Nobody gives a shoe.
          Make up your own mind.
