'Eskimo' was their first record that has earned them critical acclaim and many consider it to be their masterpiece. Designed as a musical documentary about the Eskimos, this album evokes the rugged and tribal life of this nation of the far north. Eskimo has not only the creative spirit of their best records but its theme gives it an anthropological content. Several ages evoke aspects of the lives of Eskimos: music, ritual, danger (attack of the polar bear). Considering that the lifestyle of this tribe is threatened, we can only applaud The Residents’ visionary spirit. Towards the end of the record, we distinctly heard the words: “We want Coke oh yeah!” Thus The Residents announce the disappearance of Eskimos who “now spend most of the day watching reruns on TV in government housing.” To listen with a blanket during the heat wave!
