Notes
This version has different text and colors on the CDs compared to Selected Ambient Works Volume II
All printed text on both CDs: ℗ AND © WARP RECORDS 1994
Track 2-1 was previously released on the compilation The Philosophy Of Sound And Machine.
All tracks (except track 2-1) are untitled, and are instead represented by photographs. On the artwork are six pie charts, representing the six sides of the vinyl edition, each pie slice representing a track (track length deciding the size of the pie slice), clockwise from top. By comparing each colour-coded pie chart with the small pie symbol on each photograph, it is possible to match track to photograph.
The artwork indicates 25 tracks, as on the vinyl and cassette edition, but there are in fact only 24 tracks on the CDs. The missing track, represented by the 19th pie slice, can be found on the CD compilation Excursions In Ambience (The Third Dimension).
Contains a booklet which folds out into a two sided six- display and a separate one- card.

At first I thought "why did they zoom the original cover to make it fit for a full 12 inch image? " but then I realized that the ORIGINAL cover art was cropped all these years.

Amazing. I have the 1972 reissue (sourced from the CD, of course), and just for kicks, I did a side-by-side comparison. As one might expect, this actual, real, excellent release exposes the thinness, lack of depth, and general ugliness of that awful edition. Never having sprung for an original brown or black vinyl, I can't speak for what was pressed back in the day, but this one--well, let's just say you won't be disappointed.

Since the new tapes sold out so quickly and the info vanished from the official store, I have ed bleep for technical details:
"Double cassette on chrome tape stock, in clear double stacked cassette box with printed inlay. Limited to 250"
For those who are as curious to know as I was. -
Besides the new cassette version( I just ed WARP to ask for more cassettes...please do the same.) does anyone believe there will be a limited amount of LPs pressed?( not including the box of course).

This album is truly an experience, ambient for the most part, with some really dark parts, drone and abstract, rather difficult for the average listener, but there's the merit... I found the 2017 digital remaster very rewarding, both in sound and that it contains all the tracks, plus a something extra... an eerie masterpiece, to say the least!!!

I don't know why but I always assumed this album was CD ONLY.
Must've been from a sketchy research I made back then when I got into AFX.
So now I'm 10 years late on the hunt and prices are nasty just as I would expect for this absolute masterpiece.
Just looking for the best quality pressing, any thoughts ?

Edited 2 years agoFor those without a clue about ambient, this is more than often their favorite release. It is not bad, just middle-of-the-road.
Ambient for lad mag readers and Vuitton bag carriers. -
Being someone who originally discovered Aphex Twin through the IDM of SAW 85-92, I initially didn't like SAW II. After repeated listens though - it really is an incredible collection of ambient tracks. I recommend a reissue that contains Stone in Focus. Clocks in at almost 3 hours.

looking for a brown (preferable grey labels) copy of LP1, willing to buy or trade my black version of LP1.

Honestly. When listening to Grass (#5), I was staring upwards towards the corner of my darkened room and saw an ominous cloud or shadow descend down engulfing me in a disquiet but comfortable way. It was like take some sort of mind-altering drug without the chemicals. But honestly, this is a sheer masterpiece. One of peace. One of terror. One of mystery.
