Edited 3 days agoIm not always a fan of KPG but the man has really cleaned things up here. Far less into the red in each mix than the 2019 Orange 2xLP which demands a top tracer or it becomes an overly hashy mess. The good news is KPG hasnt cleaned it with any downside of smothering the detail away. While i still dont like the inconsistent Bowie mix, the Iggy mix has arguably never been better. I even got lucky with two quiet URP pressings... NOT a given lol. But also this record is 11/10 throughout so pressing quality is much less important than usual.

Just finally picked this up. The Bowie mix is trebly and thrashy and sounds like I imagine it sounded in 1973 roaring out of an all-in-one stereo from Korvette. The Iggy mix kicks the living snot out of the CD - beefy, immersive, and loud as hell without clipping or distorting. Totally satisfying. I can already tell it's going to get a workout.

Edited one month agoFinally I can more appreciate the Iggy mix. The cd I bought in the 90's was a bit much for my ears but this vinyl version seems to have tamed that redlining. I find both these mixes to be good and different and serve their purposes well. Fwiw, I am confident the mix of Search & Destroy on the "Bowie mix" is the 2nd mix Iggy did of it back in '73 (lacks the large amount of reverb on the snare).

I just bought a sealed copy of this record, and I love it. The Iggy mix sounds like, well, raw power. If you ask me, this release remains an excellent value.

I just found this gem carving in the "used" section in my local dealer, I was used to hear it's digital version, and thus, not a big fan of Bowie's mix at first, here is where I understood why so much hate to the original mix, but you have the Iggy's mix to compare and well, you're the judge, both mix have its own thing.

This thing is LOUD - which is exactly how it should be. Even the more subdued Bowie mix is loud, however the 97 Iggy Pop mix sounds the most powerful it ever has. Absolutely a must for anyone's collection

Edited 6 months agoBoth pressings sound fantastic, the booklet is great, and the cover is sturdy for the price. However, United is still an awful pressing plant, both of my LPs arrived with scuffs due to the paper inner-sleeves but I can't hear them at all- cause it's Raw Power. So pick this up when you get the chance. It's well worth it.
Edit: The VMP pressing of the Iggy mix to me bests this by a bit. Although the prices on the VMP keep going up, so I still think this is the best value. But if you can get that VMP for a decent price grab it. -
great record, great release. the 97 mix sounds so so so so SO much better in this version. raw fucking power.

This is a pretty good bargain. The Iggy Mix actually sounds really good here, nowhere near as abrasive as the CD. And if you still don't like it, hey. Bowie's mix is there, too.
