Ok, I have a copy of this and I’m so confused.
First, I am able to A/B between level matched, uncompressed, digital sources.
Compared to the 2022 digital remaster this 2024 sounds different. More deep bass, nothing muddy. Peter’s voice is mixed lower and it feels far less “open” than the digital.
But. . . The strangest thing about this vinyl is that there is a noticeable pitch slowdown on the first tracks on both sides of the album. It lasts for 15 seconds or so then seems to return back to speed. How can that even be? The vinyl is pressed? I own about 50 albums and none of them do this. Is this some sort of defect in the pressing master?

My copy had a good bit of paper residue. I cleaned it before I played it. Sounds great on my player.

Edited 3 months agoYup… pretty dirty but after a single wet clean with the ol’ DiscWasher it plays dead silent and lets this great remaster really shine. Don’t be put off by GZ’s reputation. This sounds beautiful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Quite a bit of paper residue on my copy or of the jacket, but it brushed right off and it plays quiet, no surface noise at all that I can hear. Mastering is on point. I don't have an OG copy to compare it against, but there's certainly nothing wrong with this reissue in my opinion. My first listen had to be a little quiet due to a napping 5yo, but I'm looking forward to cranking it a bit later to see if that opens up the sound stage. For now I give it 4 stars.

Edited 5 months agoThe sound quality is great - however, after two wet cleans, there's still some light surface noise in places, mainly between tracks.

Edited 5 months agoMix on this version sounds great. Took a couple cleanings to get the grit out of the groove, but plays silently after some TLC. These Peter Gabriel reissues are fantastic. Recommended.

GZ Media (Czech Republic) so for some that’s a deal breaker. This pressing is flat and centered. The groove floor is not dead silent. Surface noise is audible but not a distraction. The vinyl was cleaned of dust and debris. Robust inner sleeve. Packaging is above average. Digital card included. This pressing is decent but not optimum. Compared to several OG pressings, this one holds its own. Worth grabbing if the price is reasonable.
