Notes
A reissue of the original UK and European LP. Considered by many to be hugely inferior to the original version both aurally and physically with blurred artwork and printing. Unlike the original version this release has the title information printed on the cover (not a sticker), doesn't have the message "Don't make me beg, just fuck me" on the back cover and doesn't include any printed inner sleeve or insert, only a simple paper record sleeve. The sound and print quality of this version is so low that some have felt it is a counterfeit.
"Ode To Clarissa" is the bonus track.

Terrible sounding pressing, very quiet and no punch at all. It is as if you are listening to it while wearing a set of loosely inserted ear plugs.
I don't think it has been on the platter for 8 or 9 years. The only reason I still have it is because they are one of my favourite bands, if not it would have been used for skeet shooting years ago. -
Newer GZ 2014 reissue cut by a DMM lathe: https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Queens-Of-The-Stone-Age-X/release/15699453

I have this and the Re-issue 000 000-0 and they both sound great. not sure why this release has so much hate. The only thing i notice is some noise between songs, but once the track kicks in its crystal clear

In accord with 1manband's comments below, there should be an additional 2014 version of this release, pressed and cut at GZ Vinyl, by their new DMM process (http://www.gzvinyl.com/Manufacturing/Mastering/DMM-cutting.aspx). It explains the quality difference, with this press being the lower quality of the two. The runout on the latter GZ press includes the distinguishing "117401E1/A," instead of "77874E1/A" from this release. It is also distinct from http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Queens-Of-The-Stone-Age-X/release/6323619 in several respects. Check this link to sort it out a bit: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/queens-of-the-stone-age-rated-x-2nd-pressing.214283/page-2#post-10793085. It appears GZ weighed in on the discussion on Steve Hoffman with this comment: "Yes, this is a 2014 reissue cut here at GZ Vinyl by our new DMM mastering system. The previous 77874E1,E2 version was cut elsewhere and we only press it."

I agree with those that have pointed out the lack of bass, the quiet drums and the quiet overall volume. The highs are crisp and clear & there is barely any surface noise. Dynamics certainly could be better, but if this is the copy you have, it's not too bad.

Edited 10 years agoSounds great.. I really don't understand why this is a bad press? record is clean, no background noise .. sounds clear not ehh.dim? record weights over 180g. spins nicely.. sounds very good.. maybe the first records of this press out the oven were bad? is there : 490 864-1 on the spine of the bad one?
-
Exactly what davelancel said. Very bad. I just received the original and it totally blows this away. Don't waste your money.

Edited 11 years agoI can confirm this is a very bad release, just try and find the original 2000 pressing and ignore this one
-
I now have both the original pressing 000 000-0 and the re-issue,
I can confirm the original pressing 000 000-0 is so much better than the re-issue, infact don't waste your money on the re-issue its so bad it will frustrate you. -
This is a terrible sounding pressing. No definition on the bass, it's just a vague rumble. The guitars are thin and weak. Apparently, earlier pressings are good, but this one with the sticker printed onto the cover is awful. Just buy the CD.
