Referencing K.D. Lang And The Reclines - Absolute Torch And Twang:
A lovely clean, clear Alsdorf master and pressing. Hardly any vinyl background noise; band and Lang's vocals sound warm and well-defined.
The decision to put "Nowhere To Stand" in the lo-fi booby prize position at the end of Side 2 is a shame from an audio perspective, but the Alsdorf engineers have compensated by decreasing the groove width on Side 2. Hence there's a large-ish runout area, but the final track is not squashed up against the label and actually sounds pretty decent with very little distortion.
Musically, k.d. Lang's vocals are, of course, "never knowingly understated", which can get a little bit much over extended listening. However, this LP is just the right length and (personally) represents the peak of her country-influenced period. After this she went on to cut "Ingenue" and pretty much left the country twang behind, if not the torch.
