This mastering is a dud - they forgot to turn on the NR that was used to decode the original master tape. How could something like this be overlooked, considering all of the other Eagles' releases from Mofi are properly decoded... I was hoping this would've been the definitive mastering, but clearly not. Maybe Analogue Productions will do it properly some years from now.
If you do not believe me, do a side by side of virtually every other release from this album. They do not have this weird un-decoded tape compressive sound. -
Edited 6 months agoI would agree this SACD is the least appealing of the MOFI series. It’s a little sterile, and SQ varies track to track. ‘I Can’t Tell You Why’ sounds fantastic, whereas ‘Long Run’ is flat and boring. Maybe it has more to do with the original recording, than the actual remaster.

The music is great but I wanted more from the production of this SACD. For starters it is only 2 channel stereo. It sounds relatively flat compared to my other SACDs or even some CDs

IMO this is the worst Eagles MFSL SACD out of the bunch. Soft and kind of muffled in some areas but too bright in others. The other Eagles MFSL SACDs are superb and better balanced throughout with the harmony vocals sounding amazing. But my original first press of "The Long Run" W. Target CD blows this away. Only MY opinion though...

Edited one year agoI haven't listened to this album in its entirety since the early 80s, but I bought most of the singles back then, and played both sides of them to death as a kid (which is how I'm so familiar with b-sides such as "The Disco Strangler") ...
While I don't have a direct reference to other versions/masterings of this album, I can say that what I'm hearing from this SACD through my speakers is STUNNINGLY good. This is obviously a very well-recorded, thoughtfully well-mixed, and well-mastered edition.
I love the pillowy thump of the drums, the crystal-clear cymbals (and how they're sometimes fancifully mixed back and forth across the speakers), the warmth of the bass guitar, the spread behind the speakers of the keyboards, and the middle-center positioning of the vocals (sometimes surrounded with harmonies).
It begs to be turned up louder, and when I do I'm rewarded with even more immersive stereo sounds that never become harsh.
