Okay this just came in from gecs website and
1. It sounds and looks fantastic
2. THIS VERSION OF BILLY KNOWS JAMIE NEEDS TO BE ON STREAMING ASAP WTF, IT FAR SURES THE ORIGINAL -
I agree with Tarrare somewhat below in the reviews👇🏻 from a sound perspective.. First....a really cool album. I picked the album up out of curiosity and from all the year end press/ media lists where it was lodged in.
Songs are clever....violet pressing surprisingly (GZ) is clean and quiet....however the mix and mastering ( from digital files?) overmodulates in the low end and it is very loud across the eq band sonically in some of the vocals on specific songs. Perhaps that was on purpose, but not likely. Takes away from the enjoyment.
A big system will point all this out and not favorably.
Strange -
Grabbed a copy from the UK Warner store, before seeing they restocked on their store. Paid $55 in total for shipping to the US. Has the faces on the center label even though the picture has the tracks listed, and has the alternate versions of 757 and BKJ

Edited 2 years agoIf this is sold out online, they're still available at shows. Picked up a copy in Philly cause I like purple, didn't realize it was limited.
If you can get your hands on a copy, it plays super well but the volume dynamics are strange compared to the more balanced streaming side of things. The low sections are really quiet, and the LOUD parts (like 757) seem much louder even when kept on the same volume. Feels like the same vinyl mixing as the money store, but weirdly enough the separation is still clear. I kind of like it, but it doesn't seem to have the clean shiny mix their first album did (despite that album also being very loud).
Edit: apparently sold out now in full, assuming the same for the yellow copy. I'd assume they still have the regular black copy for sale? Who knows. -
Unfortunately mine came with some sounding scuffs on the B-side - I ed gec and only got an automated response. Purple version is sold out now so I guess I’m just stuck with a damaged copy of this record :(

There are alternate versions of “757” and “Billy Knows Jamie” on this compared to what’s on streaming.
-
i have the label with the tracklist of the black and white vinyl on my purple vinyl :/, instead of having laura and Dylan face :(
-
Sounds fantastic! Definitely worth the (slightly hefty) asking price, they really went above and beyond to make sure this album sounds great on vinyl
