Interesting for Bowie fans. Bombers is a good song. I first heard it in 1991 on the Ryko release. However,it does not fit so well on the album. His voice is a bit too "comic" and doesn´t fit the vibe of Hunky Dory in my opinion. It was left out originally for a reason!! Interesting to hear it included on this release though. I bought this record and there was unfortunately a "tick" right through Eight Line Poem. The quietest track. Returned it and there is exactly the same tick in exactly the same song right through. So, this is not scratch, but a "pressing defect". There will certainly be others out there. Cost me 14 euros, so can´t complain...

I was prepared to avoid this redo album, as it seemed like a bit of a stretch. But when I saw it on sale, I gave in. Ken Scott seems to have been given the opportunity to do what Tony Visconti did with The Man Who Sold The World/Metrobolist, which was to update the sound of their previous production with modern digital means. Comparing the two, this one has more novelties in it, including alternate vocal takes, studio chatter, extra instrumentation, and the inclusion of "Bombers" (which I'm not sure works.)
Overall, it's a great-sounding album with enough differences and surprises to entertain a fan. It won't replace any of my old copies of the record. But most Bowie is worthwhile, even posthumous retcons like this. -

Echo sentiments from others, great, dynamic, quiet, and the different versions bring freshness, plus little flourishes like Ronno cursing when a phone rings, bring a human element. Love it.

Perfect pressing.
But with the exception of "Quicksand" this alternate version of Hunky Dory is just made of newer remixes or slightly different old mixes of the regular album tracks. This album could have been much more alternate and exciting using versions from the BBC or live renditions from his later years. Bowie must have liked this album very much, cause he often put Hunky Dory-songs into his live-sets. -
Worth the hype. This version of The Bewlay Brothers is so good. It wasn't a Bowie track I'd listen to that often but I will have that song on repeat now.

I swear the Parlophone releases in my collection are some of the best sounding records I have. This one is no exception. Dead quiet. Good mastering. Love it.
-
Pressing flat and quiet, the small differences within those versions bring a new life to this masterpiece. Already my favorite record in my collection.
