Not a fan of side b. The mastering is terrible (lots of tape hiss and not in a good way!) and the music is not to my taste. It is certainly not deep house even by '88 standards. It reminds me of the presets/patches you might find on a early 90's 'rompler' synth. Side a is better. I actually prefer a1 to a2 especially the last minute or so. The drum programming here is not bad at all. BUT, I expected a lot more given the reputation this has. I will listen to it again though to see if I like it a bit more.

Which of the older pressings sounds better, the one with the red text or the one with the blue text?

Amazing ep, yes the quality is terrible but it's still really nice.
The trax re-press is TERRIBLE, the original blue text is pretty bad but this is EVEN worse, it's actually criminally bad, save your money and complain to whoever runs Trax now.
I sort of knew it was going to be a bad re-press coming from rip off Trax but risked it as it would be a super historic treat to hear those tunes in better quality.
Don't be fooled that they pressed it on 2x 12", seriously a waste of everyone's time and plastic! 0/100
I've not heard the original red text, any better?

I purchased two copies of this lp when it first hit the stores at Imports Ect Records in Chicago 1988 and was highly disappointed when I got home and heard the sound quality but the tracks are so funky. The truth about the quality is Farley got lazy and cut corners when he started making alot of money. This album was mastered from a cassette tape. Armando Gallop helped Farley with the acid tracks. They were very close before Armando ed.

Both sides unique and endlessly variable, one of my absolute favorites in the collection. CHICAGO

One of the best records ever. So good... this is probably a pipe dream but it would be dope to get the original recordings if they're still around and reissue this on a 2XLP

Been listening and experiencing this great Lp 3 or 4 times a year since "88" and I love it more and more each year. The Jackmaster IS just that...Plus a pure genius imho...Few tracks can get me into that expansive space like 'The funk is on' and feeling that "get up and groove"... If the Jackmaster 'needs a friend', I'm Here-There for life! Much Luv ; )
