People who claim “too much bass” are comparing it to older versions. Bass reduction in the mastering stage was the norm in the 60s and 70s to prevent needle jumping on cruddy turntables and returns of “defective” records. Personally, I’m glad to have this particular record restored to its warm blanket and bass appropriate glory.

I think it was mentioned here earlier, but please, does this issue contains also the Bowie Fan Club insert card?
-
It certainly is a great album and a high quality pressing but the mix sucks. All the "booming bass" complains are spot on. There is a wide soundstage and a lot of detail but the bass gives you the feeling of sound coming from a rehearsal room. Turning down the bass a bit helps a lot though.

One of my favourite sounding records. Some noises at the beginning of Side B but nothing to complain about. Amazing.

Contrary to others' experiences, I can confirm this pressing (and the remaster it's pressed from) sound fantastic. Wide soundstage, crisp, detailed highs. Bass could possibly be slightly more articulate but it's by no means muddy. I'm not usually one for bringing up my hifi setup but given the number of reviews and the fact that so many people know this album inside out, I will in this instance as a point of reference. I'm listening on a Technics SL-QL1 via a NAD 3240PE into a pair of Technics SB-R3s.
While I haven't heard an original on my setup, I've listened to a couple of originals on other similar-tier hifis and I'd be hard pressed to tell you the difference, with the obvious exception that this pressing is a lot more readily available in NM condition without crackling to distract from the music. If you want the orange vinyl, get this. If you don't care about the orange vinyl, get the black vinyl version of the remaster. There's zero justification in my mind, from an audio perspective, for paying out twice or thrice as much for an original. The music's all here in all its excellent, detailed glory, and I can only assume naysayers are suffering from the same placebo effect as reviewers in the 90s & 2000s who said shaving the edges off your CDs somehow made them sound better. -
Well... The orange vinyl is quiet, looks like a million bucks, perfectly flat... And both my original US pressing and my late 70s US pressing absolutely slay it soundwise... This is all mid-range and soft... Lifeless. One of my favorite albums of all time, I've listened to it so much and so often... Both the old pressings have more top end, more sparkle, more bottom, more air, more life, more presence, whatever subjective you want to use... This sounds like it was mastered from a cassette. Even the cover is darker and somehow uglier, front and back... No regrets, I love the orange vinyl and everything, and I'm not one of those people that claims analog is better than digital... Spend the money and grab yourself an old 70s copy! Keep this one in its original unopened shrink wrap, sell it at a profit in a couple of years... I love the album, so I've been bouncing back and forth between all three copies all night just for my own pleasure, but it's a no brainer. The new remastering has even softened and blurred those classic, influential Tony Visconti snares. I suppose with all the things happening in the world, this is no great tragedy or crisis... What does bother me is the sense that, going forward, this is what a new vinyl copy of Low will sound like... And it's more likely to make people just shrug their shoulders and say "meh, I don't see what's so great or ground-breaking about this album"... Just one reporters opinion.

Guess I lucked out, no skips anywhere on mine. Nice flat disc, beautiful orange color, and personally I love the sound of this remaster. The boosted bass brings some extra oomf, especially on Subterranean. Poly-lined paper sleeves were a great touch, to boot. Worth picking up if you can find it at a good price.

I’ve read some complaints online about “boosted bass” of this remaster but to me it’s just very present, and gives the kick drum some extra oomph, as well. Reminds me of the AAA Ziggy remaster in that way. Great sounding release, and love the orange vinyl! Flat, thick, and sounds great. Recommended, especially at current (Summer ‘22) prices.
