My copy has a whooshing sound on every rotation that completely ruins the first LP. Should've bought the CD.

no clue if its just my record player but side B makes a very annoying screeching sound like every second or two

Obviously not the format the album's intended for, but they've mixed new endings and beginnings for each movement. If you didn't know any better, you'd think this was how the album was intended to sound! This master is airy when it needs to be, punchy when the moment comes. The trifold is a bit inconvenient to work with but the design is nice so I don't mind. About as good as you're gonna get with this album on vinyl.

Edited one year agoI washed my copy with dish soap and a paint brush then dried it with a microfiber. Very little surface noise after that. Some records are just grimy and static charged from the factory. The crappy paper sleeves do not help.
After all that it sounds exactly as it's supposed to, to my ears. It's stoner metal, ambient, drone, chugging. It's purposely grimey and buried, distorted. Wata's guitar tones sound like a distant demon summoning you from the ether. Just as it's supposed to be. -
I've given this album 2 spins so far. The first spin wasn't ideal as there was more surface noise than I would've liked and Flood 1 in particular was popping and cracking throughout. The 2nd spin however, that just wasn't the case. It was almost entirely silent and there was barely any surface noise that I could hear. I will state however that even on this 2nd spin there were a few pops, but they were infrequent enough, not as loud as the first time I put this on the turntable, and did not ruin the music for me. All in all I'd still recommend this pressing even with some of its faults, it sounds great all around on the 2nd spin and the packaging for this thing is just straight up stunning. 4/5 stars

Edited 2 years agoNoisy and crackling. It's been years since I bought a brand new LP with so much surface noise and pops. And guess what? That last time was also from Third Man (Houdini). They must be adding some secret sprinkles to the PVC formula to enhance the retro vinyl mood or something. Guess what else. I'm a vinyl apologist, but once I put on a second record I realised "Why am I doing this? This is a single 60-minute composition. Having it on an LP is a nonsense", a point of view which I still hold on to, but side 3 left me speechless anyway. When this pressing hits, it hits hard. Not a big fan of the sound of the first disc though, too muddy and quiet for my taste. The packaging is beautiful.
I bought it brand new on Amazon for like $25 bucks a few days ago, so don't feed the scalpers. Wait for restocks. -

The first time you spin it there'll most likely be a lot of surface noise. Let the needle work the crud out of the grooves.
That 2nd time though? Ohhhhh baby this absoultely crushes! Virtually flawless pressing once you crank the volume up. -
Edited 9 months agoTo echo others, it definitely feels like it needs to be gassed up overall. Comparing it to the CD though, the CD is much better as far as dynamics as well as just listening experience as one continuous track. You can still get the CD direct from Inoxia records in Japan.
