It is always a risk. My copy with swirl label of Vertigo is a copy on black vinyl. I listened to it and it surprises me that as an unofficial release , the sound is good, no disturbing sounds or flutters.
-
This is an imposter and has nothing to do with the Philips from `74. Crackles by default, it's spaceless, has missing dynamics, sharp edges....

Agree with all comments here. I bought it without realising. Didn't pay very much luckily. Avoid. In 2020 there is now a proper pressing in blue vinyl. Get that one!
-
Foolishly picked this up at a record stall in Camden Market, not realising it was a counterfeit, and agree that the quality of the pressing is rubbish. Music too quiet, and drowns in the surface noise.
-
The quality of the music is not in question. The quality of pressing is. Avoid buying this version. Horrible surface noise, crackles and pops throughout that really distract.

Whilst this pressing, for the most part; is not great when it comes to audio quality - what is contained within those grooves is something profound. People often remark on the superb title-track (and rightly so), for it remains perfect to this day. For me, however, the last three tracks (Kometenmelodie 2, Mitternacht & Morgenspaziergang) are what elevates this into the realm of "greatest albums ever".
Kometenmelodie 2, although instrumental is bliss. It sounds to me like the perfect representation of the idea of the "pop song", it gets it right in every single way.
Mitternacht haunts me. It is the sound of dystopia, of "Metall Auf Metall" of an "Arbeiterstadt" - maybe a hint of their appreciation for Fritz Lang's Metropolis a few years before the obvious paean to the great film.
Morgenspaziergang is one of the most beautiful sounding songs which I have ever heard. It lilts and floats, perfectly conjuring the idea of a Springtime early morning walk amongst fields and wild-life. -
Edited 10 years agothe good: reproduction of original uk release, classic vertigo swirl on translucent blue vinyl.
the bad: very poor quality, muffled vinyl transcription.
buy if you need a visual supplement to the actual album, avoid if you have ears and decent loudpeakers. -
