Excellent release. You can sense how this was around the time of Delicate Substance....

One of those few records in which every track is excellent.

To me the real stand out title has to be "Hyperspice".
With its 9:18 min duration it might be slightly over the top in today's standards, but there's constantly so much going on that you will not get bored and 'oh how much energy it has!! Plenty of crunchy analogue sounds with a death defying distorted kick drum that keeps on chewing on the background, locking you in a weird mental state while the surrounding strobos are flashing. There is also a regular kick drum in conjunction with the monster-kick creating a unique rhythm sensation. The crispy 303 and the siren-like sounds will definitely keep in you on your toes until the soothing, positive organ melody steps in sending you floating... until the kick-drum-from-hell returns bashing the non-dedicated to pieces! Consider yourself warned.
The title track "The Spirit Of Fear" is more of a laidback song and has that certain futuristic and very typical Oliver Lieb athmosphear to it. It isn't a bad track, but in all of its typicality it doesn't offer you much.
S.Y.N.C. is a faster track with addicting 303 line and a variety of analogue sounds that are very familiar from the "Quicksand EP".
"Ant Attack" is the second stand out track for me. It has a cool sub-bass sound combined with break beat and has the typical early 90's german trance "chill out" part around the middle of the track with a nice melody.

In all, this was yet another quality piece from O.Lieb, maybe not as big as "Quicksand EP" (HH010) but much better than "Spicelab EP" (HH007) in my opinion.
