Reviews

The pressing sounds unbelievably fantastic. Never thought that I could rediscover this gem on that level. A minor disappointment is that the second LP came a bit warped, though it’s not significantly affecting playing.
-
Purchased new fin 2024. Vinyl is quiet without any background noise between or within tracks. No visual imperfections on any of the 4 sides. Sonics are outstanding on par or better than 1st UK pressing with Audio Technica Shibata VM50SH stylus on a VM cartridge.

Edited one year agoPLEASE NOTE: My star rating does not indicate the quality of the album, but the quality of the pressing - Looking at previous reviews, I hadn't seen issues with side B. However, that was the side that I found had the most crackling. Sides C and D were just fine and sounded crystal clear. I was surprised to hear the dreaded campfire appear on side B though - Shame too because "Calico Skies" is on that side. I will come back after I do a wet clean and see if that resolves my issues on side B.

Bad pressing...especially side 3 crackles like a camp fire...many fine scratches on all sides, because of the hard inner sleeves...horrible

Luckily I have not had the issues of some in this review with sides C and D. This is a phenomenal pressing and half speed remaster. When this first came out I listened to the CD non-stop. I can say without a doubt the clarity on this overshadows the CD by quite a bit. My two LP's are over 200g vs 180g (yup, I weigh all my albums). In addition, the large dead wax space on each LP just adds to the sound quality. This may be my best sounding vinyl.

Great sound, great looking jacket, love the lyric book with notes. No skipping issues as mentioned previously by other s. My only complaint is no Polysleeve but heavy card stock sleeves are fine I guess.

Edited 4 years agoActually not that great pressing quality as you would expect regarding the price of € 39. Record 1 is perfect, but with record 2 comes the disappointment. This has several clicking noises, not really striking but annoying. Especially after "Great Day", you might think you just played on old 7" from the 50s, as there are unpleasant background noises in the lead-out groove which come repeatedly. I tested two copies. Both had nearly the same issues. Not that kind of a decent pressing I would expect from Optimal GmbH.
-
Just pulled my original CD out and much prefer it to the half speed. There is a lovely warmth to it.
