Edited 13 years agoThis is up there with Early Underground / Instinct Dance releases by Moby in 1992/1993 for me. All make up a time when Moby was one of my favorite artists. Beautiful Blue Skies comes in with one of the most memorable keyboard note fade ins In my history of listening to music. I enjoy the echo bongos drumming pattern over the layered synths followed by break with piano then back transitioning into the soothing keys again. terrific track and one of my personal favorites by Moby. Heaven then begins. It my most favorite Moby dance / trance track. Many of you have heard Demons / Horses. Those were the evil dj Moby. Heaven is...well...heaven. Powerful, hypnotizing a track he ever he did. many simple but effective and excellent sounds all combine to an epic and transcending track. The voices harmonizing with the melodies while you hear Moby sigh and breath over the track gives it this mysteriousness and utter beauty that imo is the pinnacle of a minimal styled trance track. True trance. Then the melody fades out leaving the kick drawing you in. Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.....then back in comes the melody and you soar into heaven...
the next few songs fit into the minimalism Moby style that i enjoy the most. Like a few tracks off Early Underground or a Mobility. Tongues is drenched into echo. Repetitive but it hits the sweet spot. I wish Moby would listen to these analog tracks again. Listen to that beat. So much personality and warmth. Genuine and somber minimalism. J Breas is a window to what all post 2000 ambient Moby would lead to and specifically his pop ambient notes in Everything is Wrong and then Animal Rights a few years later. Moby must have felt like a recluse or an outsider writing these tracks. They are very somber like in Myopia.Tracks 6-12 are probably the most experimental songs Moby has released for the public. They leave the cd ending a little cold but the genuine mood expressed and beauty within them is in my opinion the essence of Moby as a producer. And if you are into meloncholly and minimalism than you will enjoy this very much. However if you don't already know it you will need to have a fondness for 1993's electronic analog times... And since that's my love this is a special release for me. Cassette version is even on my nightstand...
