Wow what a pressing! If there was a "hot mix" of a Journey album this is it! Sound is awesome! Picked this up for $.50 cents at the Lions Club, got it home and gave it my Pre clean and Ultrasonic clean and bam!!!! What a score! (Picked up 13 total albums) This one sounds the best!

Is there a not remastered Frontiers CD that does not have pre-emphasis?

Like many have said, one of Journey’s many masterpieces with many classics on it. The sound was really nice as well.

Amazing the lack of any reissues, they could do a box set of just thius album and sell many, many sets. Gotta be some interesting demo, unreleased and live from this era.

What a spectacular piece of craft by one of the most important bands of the '70s and '80s. Departure, Infinity, Escape, and Frontiers are just superb.

Plenty of hits on this record, terrific writing and great singing by Steve Perry. I'm having a little trouble with the mix, as some of these songs are pretty messy. Individual tracks have reverb applied, and the synth takes up a great deal of aural space, competing with pretty much every other instrument. This contributes to a muddy effect overall. Notice on "Separate Ways" how the drums are pulled back so far, you can barely hear what Steve is playing. High guitar leads soar over the top fairly well, and Perry's voice is front and center and hot in the mix. It's a tricky business mixing a five-member band, especially in the '80s when reverb was applied liberally. THIS is a great candidate for a future re-mix, IMO.

Well I am stumped about my Frontiers CD. I have CK 38504, 0 7464-38504-2 with Now Made In The U.S.A. on the back cover next to the barcode but it doesn't match any of the other ones. Mine does not have a DIDP on the disc face middle right side. All it has there is CK 38504 COMPACT disc DIGITAL AUDIO and no triangle pointed down in a circle either. On the middle left side of the disc face it has a large CBS next to the symbol "eye with the 2 legs in a square". Another difference is at the bottom on the CD it say "CBS," (eye symbol) ARE TRADEMARKS OF CBS INC./ MADE IN JAPAN. So the disc says MADE IN JAPAN on it as well as the rear cover art. This looks like something you don't have listed since I have thoroughly inspected every single one with the same catalog number and cannot match the disc up to any of them. On the back side of the disc there are no IFPI's . There are letters and numbers that are printed like dots : LB 2 76 and CK-38504. Maybe the CD is from the Long Box which is what that LB 2 76 on the back of the disc means but the info on the Long Box version is too sketchy to it but the Long Box version does have the same catalog number and barcode.

Another example of a track sequence gone wrong. There's too many ballads on Side 1, and Side 2 ends up being much heavier and shorter. It should have been arranged like this for better flow and balance:

                SIDE 1
                Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
                Troubled Child
                Chain Reaction
                Send Her My Love
                Rubicon

                SIDE 2
                Edge Of The Blade
                After The Fall
                Back Talk
                Frontiers
                Faithfully

Why is the Label Code listed as "QC 38504" when that doesn't appear anywhere on the album? Can anyone help me out here? I have this copy and had a hard time finding it in the datebase for this very reason...
