"The Remaster Has Failed..." Couldn´t have said it better (see: metalrob´s comment). Musically "The System Has Failed" features top quality songs and rather interesting musician line-up delivering the goods. BUT I´ve always been disatisfied with the mastering of the album. Personally I prefer "anti-loudness" albums, because throughtout the new millennium the mastering level of the albums in general have become overcompressed pain for the ears. Call me an old dinosaur, but it makes me wonder were these newer albums designed to be played through smart phones (with a capacity of reproducing the "modern" sound quality already established back in the 1950´s when transistor radios appeared) or to be digested tastefully using proper home stereo system... Don´t get me started...
Anyway, I was seriously hoping that with the release of remastered edition of "The System Has Failed" all those annoying digital distortion peaks (heard on the original 2004 cd release) would have been fixed somehow, Well, the problem has been fixed -well, sort of- by adding even more loudness thus making this remastered edition unlistenable. A pity... -
