My father used to always play china cat sunflower all the time , one of my all time favorite songs growing up in the 70s

Still my favorite. Or second favorite. Damn there’s just so many great Dead records! This sounds the most authentic and well balanced to me, though I know there’s lots of overdubs. Maybe it’s because the used copy I got smells like weed, incense and tobacco.

Edited 3 years agoThis 1st Press green label cut by a young Kevin Gray at Artisan Sound Recorders is more raw, energetic, dynamic, and cut hotter than the Chris Bellman cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering from 2011. Although the reissue Chris Bellman cut is very smooth and has a bit deeper and well defined bass, it does not have the excitement and raw dynamic energy of this 1st pressing. This is my go to copy when I want to hear Europe '72 in its full glory.

Edited 2 years agoI bought this pressing second-hand in the 1980's, kept it a few years, and then in a fit of stupidity-sold it. Last year I re-bought it and now I can't stop playing it! Well worth owning in any format.

If you only own one Grateful Dead record this should be it. Great collection of most of their best songs, recorded pretty well for the time, and just played amazingly all around.
