Good solid effort with tasteful covers. Shirley could really belt it out, but had the ability to include nuanced emotion through out the song. This record chooses a set of pieces that fit her strengths and allow her to showcase her interpretations. Many records of this era and style wear you down with one song after another of what sounds like in tune yelling. Here there is enough variety and the vinyl format really allows her voice to breath. Shirley's cover of the Beatle's (George Harrison) Something is a particular treat and ranks among the better Beatle's covers. The orchestrations compliment the singer and have aged well. If the wa-wa guitar makes an occasional appearance, but does not detract and actually sounds more fun then dated. I would highly recommend this classy record, especially for date night.
