I've owned this from the early 80s and have grown to love it more and more over the years. It's one of those records that just makes me so happy - from the first "ahh..!" it's just this perfect balance of riotous, odd, funky, catchy, clever, awkward and yet fluid. Perfectly (though very unconventionally) paced, it starts with a whole side of wonky Fela funk and gradually opens up and quietens down on side two to end on a strange low.

So many great things - Belew's unique guitar, the periodically missing notes of Weymouth's bass on Once In A Lifetime (Google for the story), the imitation of an unheard Joy Division (again, ask Google). This and Bush Of Ghosts are a perfectly odd couple that contain a universe of ideas.

David Byrne & his band were in the greatest shape , Brian Eno is ubiquitous , the production is second to none , many super guests marched over through the album , lyrics are sophisticatedly social-political & the music is so dense , intricate & layered , blending art punk & new wave , innovative electronics & ethnic-world elements . To sum up , that is a very , very unique album !!!
