Jon Brion – Magnolia - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

It's funny that you are all so surprised that vinyl has surface noise.

I have no idea what people are on about, the records I got sound perfectly fine. They're not among the cleanest sounding records I got, but also far from the worst. I find the pressing quality to be perfectly average.

Absolutely AWFUL pressing.

Magnolia is one of my favorite movies of all time, but this is the worst pressing i have in my collection. The surface noise, constant noise, pop and crackling is real, like all the others have said. So if you came for Jon Brions score, this is unlistenable in my opinion. I had expected SOME noise, but holy crap this is beyond just regular surface noise. It bleeds into almost every aspect of the Score.

Aimee Mann's songs fair much better since the music can over power some of that noise, but its still very present in the quieter moments. But i would say the first record gets a since you can still enjoy the music. The 2nd and 3rd record though are disgusting, and yes i have cleaned it. I paid $110 AUD for the black vinyl edition, and all l feel is regret. Cool collectable, but useless for actually spinning the music.

I can confirm both surface noise in quiet ages and also a noticeable warp. I got this very shortly around its release for $40 with shipping. These things would bother me more if Aimee Mann hadn’t released this music as bonus tracks to her Bachelor No. 2 reissue on vinyl last autumn. This set is valuable to me for the original Wise Up which Mann doesn’t own the publishing rights to and which she had to re-record, and also for the innovative artwork from Mondo.

There is a lot of surface noise on this pressing which is really unfortunate. It's my first and only Mondo release and it will be my last. Even after a deep cleaning with both an ultrasonic cleaner and vacuum machine rinse, nothing can fix this. Stay away if you're expecting quiet vinyl.

Finally got around to taking a chance on this and i'm glad i did. There is a hint of surface noise, (it's coloured vinyl & a Mondo release, its gonna have some noise on it) but it's not enough to detract from the overall sound quality of the music, which is great. Just be aware going in and dont pay over the odds and you'll have a great soundtrack to enjoy.

Mondo still has this version for sale on their site. Don't pay jacked up prices.

I buy it too fast. I'm agree with all reviews. I have more than 6000 records, and Mondo produce very noisy new records ! It's just incredible to do somthing like that. A professionnal mistake. Continue to product goodies but please try to choice a real producer and a true manufacturer.

ive got three of it, one black, two coloured. All are with noises. So if someone got a good sound, be happy with it. Mondo ist very customer orientated, as far as i can see my solving strategy. Im fine and happy so far.

I got the three color variant of this LP a few weeks back. It’s one of my favorite soundtracks ever from one of my favorite films ever, and Aimee’s songs on it are iconic. I’ve always wished for a proper vinyl press of this soundtrack, so when I noticed this, I went nuts and had to have it inmediately. I opted for the color variant just as a collector, and crossed my fingers and hope it wouldn’t effect the sound quality too much.

I had a packaging issue with my copy, as the sleeve and insert arrived bent pretty bad in one corner. Mondo wound up sending me a replacement copy, so I waited to spin the records til then.

I just put it on, and I noticed at LOT of surface noise/static during the first cut, “One”. Not noticing as much noise during the songs with more instrumentation, but there is some real awful static during the quieter moments. (Which there are PLENTY during these songs that really make them so magical) I came here to see if anyone else had similar issues, and I see that PLENTY of people have. It’s a shame because the underlying music sounds like they took some great care with the mastering for the vinyl release, but I guess it was just a shitty job with the actual pressing.

I’m kind of disappointed because of how expensive the set was, and considering it doesn’t seem like I got a “dud” and that this static is the norm. If you’re a big enough fan of the music on this collection, I wouldn’t shy away from purchasing it if you can find it at the original sale price still. ($45 or so before the shipping). Buyer beware though, with the sound defects. It’s not enough to not warrant a purchase, but if you happen to spend $75+ on this you may be taking a chance.
