Edited 3 months agoBought this brand new back in 2017 from Mondo and only just got around to opening it. Not impressed. Plenty enough clicks, pops, crackles on on the disks, some of the slipcases are scuffed / filthy and I'm missing the lithograph out of the boxset. Almost looks like it has been opened before and resealed.
Disk 1 - Side A - Loads of Popping / Crackling throughout.
Disk 1 - Side B - Slightly less / acceptable levels
Disk2 - Side A/B - Virtually nothing.
Disk3 - Side A - Loads of popping on final track.
Disk3 - Side B - Loads of popping on final track.
Disk4 - Side A - Loads of Popping / Crackling throughout.
Disk4 - Side B - Loads of Popping / Crackling throughout.
After listening through it's alright; assume most of the distortion is due to the disks being filthy and should clear up with better cleaning / more play, however, whole set isn't really what I expected so I doubt it'll get played much more than this once.
Still salty the handbill was missing. -
LOVED IT! No sound problems, great artwork, cool looking colored vinyl, and a still scary as hell - and yet the same time so beautiful an orchestral soundtrack. Jerry Goldsmith was da man!

FYI ...My copy sounds fantastic. Clean your record, use a good needle. I don't know what to tell you...I'm enjoying it right now. Course I have 70's gear. Aside from the coolest presentation ever...what a set.

I got this for my 21st birthday last year and it was the most disappointing thing I've heard. Don't buy this release, people. Just stick with the CD versions.
-
Mine also sounds horrible. It completely pulls you out of the experience with the amount of pops/clicks and noise. Avoid!

Edited 7 years agoThis is a pretty disappointing release from Mondo. Each vinyl exhibits an unfortunate amount of surface noise, especially out of the right channel. Now, one should expect a certain amount of noise/clicks/pops when listening to vinyl, but this is ridiculous. The black disc 4 is the least offending in the set, but it's still sub-par even when compared to colored/splatter releases.
I've rarely listened to a record and been unable to enjoy the music due to issues with the vinyl. If I had to, I would guess that my set (or maybe all) was pressed with a dirty plate. Basic QC would have determined that these were unsuitable for sale if this is a wide-ranging problem.
Aside from a terrible copy of Deus Ex Human Revolution, this box set is the worst in my collection. Each disc also has stray bits of material on the edges, which isn't unheard of, but I was surprised to see it on an expensive box set.
I've bought many Mondo releases over the years and this one is the worst by a large margin. -
Edited 7 years agoUnfortunately this is one of the "not so good"- pressings from Mondo. Every LP has a lot of noise and clicks. I would d say that the red Splatter sounds better than the green and brown vinyl, but still far beyond perfect! I know it is colored vinyl (except LP 4), but Mondo has proven in the past that you can press great sounding records on colored vinyl (listen to Bad Batch or Portal as an example).
