I think this sounds just like the big wonderful journey that it should. I’m listening on Hifiman Arya Stealth headphones. Micro Line stylus. The detail from top to bottom is insane. I like the balance that’s been chosen here. It’s an epic listen. On this kit it sounded dynamic and alive. “I’m a Marionette” was especially grand. 🤯
The bass stands proud. Plus these headphones are naturally a bit weak in the low and mid bass. So, if it sounds not too bad on these then it possibly could sound overpowering on something that’s a bit more bassy already. -
I threw this half speed mastered ABBA album in the bin along with all the other half-speed mastered ABBA albums from Abbey Road as none of them were of any value at all to me by the time I had heard them on my turntable. Frankly the CD copies are vastly better and the original vinyl records are even better still. The regular ABBA Gold album sounds wonderful too but the original UK pressing of the The Singles The First Ten Years sounds even better still.

Darn - I missed this one on release.
I have a sealed copy of the ARRIVAL half speed master (https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/release/9161896-ABBA-Arrival) I would TRADE for a copy of this if anyone is keen. -
Edited 4 years agoThis release is where they started to get the right remastering results. A little bottom-heavy, but a few EQ tweaks bring this into focus; drop the bass a few notches, and raise the treble one notch, and you’re there. Probably one of the best pressings of this release. Forget the original UK Epic, it’s a shocker !

The sound is no doubt more narrow and less transparent compared to the original vinyl from 1977. The original sounds more alive.
I´ve never heard an analogue recording when later being digitalized and remastered sound any better on a new vinyl pressing. This Abbey Road edition was made using digital source of masters and that is a shame. Benny or Björn, or people involved in this special edition vinyl probably never listens to music these days on vinyl. Therefor they don't understand or know the difference. Get the original maser tapes, (or good copies), then remaster and press a anoluge vinyl -or don't bother at all. The shortcut way of digital masters does not work and it is also a ripoff to those of us who are willing to pay extra for an upgrade. This album cost me 50€, the original cost me 5€. Both albums were bought in 2019.
