Edited 3 months agoLike people have said, the mix is smashed at parts. I’ve got a respectable setup (Sony PS-X800 linear tracker with an AT VMN540ML) The loud ending of purple rain is a prime example. The rumbling crescendo breaks up as if it were distorted. It’s not IGD, it’s straight up too much signal causing the needle to slam around.
Other than that phenomenon happening during especially loud parts, this cut is pretty damn good -

Edited one year agoExcellent LP overall. However, I have to turn up the bass on my receiver whenever I play this record since it's a little too quiet. Other than that, the sound is crisp and never muddled.

Edited 3 years agoAll versions of the 2017 Remastered vinyl were NOT remastered by Prince!!!
They were remastered by Joshua Welton….and approved (overseen) by Prince…and this 2015 remaster was first released on vinyl in 2017 !! -
Album could use some more bottom end…sounds a bit weak to be honest. Playing off a Rega P3, Elex-R and Wharfedale Evo 4.3.

I finally got a copy of this remastered version, and I have to say that, it is just so, so good. Such crisp sound, that will make the hairs on the back of your neck, stand up. But although I really do love this record, I must it that I am SO glad that there is no such thing as 'purple rain'. Because if I got caught out in it, it would ruin my nice white sports jacket and my mam would be, so very furious with me!! -

Just wondering who did the remastering? Any idea? I guess it's not the 2009 KG remastering.
