Edited 3 years agoSome of the numbers on here are really great (the title track is particularly strong), but, dear lord, the existing Blue Note Classic vinyl pressing is terrible. I don't know whether I had a copy that somehow dulled down in someone's storage (it looked nice shiny NM but for some reason sounded quiet and flaccid), but this is a rare pre-digital age jazz release that I prefer on CD. I own quite a few other Blue Note Classic (LT series) records pressed in '78 and '79 that sound phenomenal, like Lee Morgan's "Sonic Boom", Shorter's "The Soothsayer", Jimmy Smith's "Confirmation", etc. My guess is that Infinity was just a bad pressing because it was done in the 80s and towards the end of the series, as there were a lot of real 80s Blue Note duds as far as mastering quality went. I wonder if a modern repress will be more dynamic.
