I find the strangest thing about this album is that of all of the songs on this album "It's In The Way That You Use It" sounds more like classic Phil Collins than anything else on the record, and it (apparently) is the ONE song here he did not work on; It would not sound out of place on "No Jacket Required" I'd swear that was Collins on backing vocals, unless his contributions were uncredited, he did not appear on or produce it. -
Great record! I fell that Clapton had fun recording this one especially having Phil Collins hanging out to help out. I enjoy their collaborations. Pressing sounds great! Highly recommended!

August is a better album that the previous years Behind The Sun, production sounds shaper and less cluttered first of all thanks to Tom Down helping out with Phil Collins and secondly to just a core band of musicians, Nathan East on bass and Greg Phillinganes on keyboards. Guests include Tina Turner and at last we get real horns.
The 80s weren’t really kind to Clapton with his drinking at an all time high and music pretty patchy. The album title August 1986, is from the month his son was born and this was a life changing experience that helped him kick the drink and drugs. Things got better and in 1989 he was back on form with Journeyman, his best album in over a decade. Grand Illusion is a bonus track on the CD. -

Proving that Phil Collins was more than just a drummer/vocalist. His PRODUCTION skills are on full display here, as well as his arrangements, and overall aesthetic. His drumming (as always) elevates things to a higher level...
Ohh...and ALL the songs are great, and Clapton is in full effect here. (regardless of what the "critics" claimed)
This is not only one of my favorite Clapton albums, but it's also my favorite Collins production, and one of my favorite albums overall.
10/10 -

FYI as much as I love Phil Collins, the credits should list Henry Spinetti as drums on track 1 "It's in the Way That You Use It". -
A shame that Warner didn't give this re-issue the same 2 LP treatment they gave to "Behind the Sun".

Fantastic album, and produced by PHIL COLLINS. His drumming, arranging, and production really stand out here. The rest of the band consists of session greats Greg Phillingaines & Nathan East. Great songs, great playing all around.
This 1986 CD issue is the one to get. Avoid later masterings, as they are severely compressed/limited. -
One of my all time favorite albums ever. But this remaster has a serious tape dropout on "Walk away" and the entire album was mastered utilizing too much compression/brick walling.
