Notes
Reading festival was the reason for Twisted Sister to get a contract with a label, in their first visit in the UK.
Recorded and mixed in (UK) many different places (a barn included, with a mobile unit and hey stacks for soundproof) this was the stepping stone of the band from the bars to studio, via a small punk label.
It did matter in of making a record, but in of quality, the original low budget outcome was not the best. The producer and the engineer didn't help much.
On 14th of July 1985 it was re-released by Atlantic Records remixed, with new sleeve artwork and a bonus song: "I'll Never Grow Up, Now" (the band's long forgotten 1979 single).
The Atlantic Records release was both an attempt to emphasize on the commercial success of Stay Hungry and, by then (and for years to come) the only official way to get the album as Secret Records was no more. However, bootlegs with the original mix were still in circulation.
On May 31, 2011, Eagle Records re-released Under the Blade in a digital remastered form with the original mix finally restored.
Under the Blade has sold over two million copies worldwide.
The track "Bad Boys Of Rock 'N Roll" is a new recording of a track that appeared earlier on the 1981 compilation: Homegrown Album.

Just picked this up at a local record store for 4 bucks and it’s in my current line up of music to listen to can’t wait !!

Edited one year agoFirstly, I cleaned each LP with a velvet brush and basic cleaning solution. Both silver vinyl LP's weigh 148-151 grams each on my personal scale. The gatefold cover weighs 158 grams. Came with your basic white paper inner sleeves(not poly-lined). No inserts. Gatefold with lots of photos and the back cover has some info about recording the album in England, written by the band . LP 1 is warped to the point that I will be returning this album, not that it was unplayable, but on the verge of unplayable and when your paying $70.00 for a double LP..... LP 2 is warped as well, not as bad as LP 1, and I noticed that ring wear was about to be happening to the cover/jacket, very soon. The sound quality is good enough.

Seem to only be getting 4:08 at best for I'll Never Grow Up, Now! when I recorded the vinyl to digitize a version for my PC and phone.

I'll it that I grew up really liking "Stay Hungry". To me it's a timeless album full of classic songs. I really had no interest in the rest of their catalog for some reason. Then I heard "Hail of Bullets" cover the song "Destroyer" and I then realized that I needed to hear the original. I know the Hail of Bullets version is going to be the heavier and more appealing to me but I still had to search out the original TS album with that song. I looked for quite a while for "Under The Blade" but everyone who had it was asking a small fortune for it. I don't mind paying up for some releases, but a "Twisted Sister" album? Thankfully I found a fair deal on here from a domestic seller and it has a complimentary DVD. I just got the disc in the mail today so I haven't had a chance to listen yet. Not quite sure what to expect since "Stay Hungry" is all I really know from them. I do know that Dee Snider has always proudly waved the flag of metal and was never shy about it. We'll see if I dig this or if it's a shelf piece. All I know is that it's a bitch to find on CD from a US seller who's not asking for the moon and stars in exchange. People asking ridiculous money for this thing.

Edited 3 years agoNot quite hair band .... this is the best TS album IMO. This was when the band was down and gritty and heavy. If you are looking for Stay Hungry you are in the wrong part of town. This album feels like the dirty NYC of the 80s. Listen and beware. Highlights Destroyer /Under the Blade Tear it loose....
