Edited 20 years agoSub-titled ‘Prime cuts from the original soundtrack’ which came out on 8th November 2004 and is “a documentary on (Bob) Moog’s collaborations with musicians over the years”. Sounds good stuff. I’m still impressed by the bank off knobs on these things and what comes out the other end. Moog has been making them for 50 years now and has played a defining role in the music scene from Tangerine Dream and (early) Roxy Music/Brian Eno to Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder Disco to electro funk George Clinton/Bootsy Collins and countless more. However, the tracks “all produced on Moog instruments specifically for the soundtrack” left me disappointed. Whilst the Bonus Disc, is more of a tribute, they clearly wanted to stay away from a ‘Greatest Hits’ for the movie. Disc 2 tracks are probably familiar. On ELP's ‘Lucky Man’ Kieth Emerson only gets a minute at best to show off. Jean-Jaques Perrey's albums are rare and attract big £signs but you can find 'E.V.A' on lots of compilation, like BGP's ‘I Like It’ (1996). Devo's ‘Mongoloid’ isn't their best. Track 6 is some nonsense hoedown and the last track is ‘Close To The Edge’ by prog rocksters Yes. At least there's a variety. Synth heads will probably enjoy the film more than the soundtrack judging by the trailer. My advice to Moog fans is to keep twiddling your knobs (actual and virtual) as you might produce something better than this; generate exponentially damped sine signal to start and move on from there. Film directed by Hans Fjellestad. See trailer: http://stream.qtv.apple.com/qtv/plexifilm/moogshorttrailer_ref.mov
