Neel (2) – Voices From The Lake

This version is still the definitive Voices from the Lake, like a current that flows continuously. The de-mixed version made for the recent vinyl reissue is for vinyl fans, the mixed CD version is for true music fans. And it is the de-mixed version that is on digital and streaming services now and it is a travesty. Not only are new listeners no longer listening to the album as it was originally intended to be heard, this also means that the CD version is not likely to ever resurface again and eventually be forgotten, swept underneath by the vinyl craze. If you are a true music fan, I think it is well worth it to go fishing for this CD.

A little pricey disc since its oop but well worth the investment. Most to my ears ambient dub house after a while starts to sound samey and cookie cutter this album however is NOT of that pigeon hole.
Moody, textural, visceral, deep and continually evolving ambient/dub techno music. This is more thinking mans electronica and tho there is a percussive element theres also alot more going on with the momentary bleeps and buried ambient drones deep in the back of the stereo field. This is gold and stands a testament when musicians following their own artistic muse.

It is and remains a shame to bring such a great re-release with great tracks that I wasn't allowed to hear on my original 3xLP onto the market in such a bad pressing. It is and remains a disgrace!!!

Very good music but very bad pressing… for this price i am disapointing :(

So, any comments on the second batch of presses? Does this still have many problems, including clicks, high-pitch sounds etc.?
Is it worth the price?

Maybe I got lucky (or not, considering the average rating of this pressing), but mine is perfect. Can't compare to the 2012 pressing, but while not perfectly flat, my copy is absolutely silent (no squeal, clicks or pops), and it sounds lively and engaging. Given that these are 4 discs, I think the price is acceptable as well (got mine at 49 euros). It's true however that the packaging is disappointing, but that's not very important to me. Would recommend!

bought this last week, decks.de, still available.. first, im glad to have all(?) tracks on vinyl, the sound quality is absolutly ok, and if you get this for a normal price: go for it.. BUT, if this get insane prices in the future, get the prologue pressing, the sound is much better..

Looking for opinions on this version (standard, not the special edition book version) vs the original 3LP pressing on Prologue. Sound and packaging - sounds as though this one is pretty poor on packaging? Does the 4LP add to the experience for people? I'm talking home listening, no intention to play this one out.. thanks!

Pure expression of musical art! It creates its own atmopsphere like a trippy journey into spaceness ambience.... Truly a Gem! Hope for a repress for those who did not get the chance to buy :-)

Sounds ok at first, but there is a high-pitched squealing/feeback type noise (a manufacturing defect known as 'chip squeal') on discs 2, 3 and 4. It's very apparent through headphones, particularly on the run-in grooves and sounds awful!

The bass and drums on Circe + ST Pt. 2 are distorted and the bass on H.G.S Pt.2 sounds incredibly overdriven, fuzzy and ruined by even more distortion. Scuffing noise/non-fill on the intro to all discs (except side A) and a recurring hard click towards the very end of side B.

A single outer sleeve which struggles to hold all 4 records without badly creasing the thin, cheap black inners (which may as well have been made from tissue paper) when removing or replacing them....it needed a gatefold with lined inners.

They messed this reissue up, especially given the high demand and anticipation. Such a disappointment. Maybe the box set sounds better...it certainly looks nicer, presentation-wise. The CD version is still THE way to go....a flowing hypnotic masterpiece from start to finish with a near-perfect sense of build and release. Doesn't work its seamless magic when broken up into isolated parts.
