In reference to a 1-1-3 variant IFPI L044. A sparkling, punchy, open transfer on par with the series, consistently.

Sadly this one is NR'd and just doesn't come close to the RVG remaster.

What was said before about AP, MM, Tone Poet, is true and even more, all three are excellent pressings, however it is more musical to be able to listen to a 33 1/3, two-sided, instead of a 45, four-sided, to increase the value, and increase the profits of the Record company.

Have to agree with the rest of the folks here. This copy I was able to get sealed. The sound is nothing to worry about. It’s really pleasant to hear. I also can safely say maybe one of the better sounding jazz albums that I’ve got (albeit small collection). If you find this early 80’s pressing in good condition, you should get it without hesitation.

The record sounds and plays well. I didn't know a huge amount about Herbie Hancock before I bought this. I was probably aware of Watermelon Man or much later interpretations of Watermelon Man maybe because I think the original or early versions are something of a far cry from what I'm familiar with. Anyway, I might be wrong or right on that not sure. The point is, for this little review, I was just expecting this record to be a lot more melodic than it is and every time I put it on I just can't stop myself from thinking that it's more infernal tootling than enjoyable jazz. Not doubt there's a zillion shades of jazz and I'm not stuck in any preconceived picture of what jazz is or should be. I just expected a more melodic experience. I do enjoy this record and I enjoy the music. But that term...it always winds its way into my brain when this is on...infernal tootling. Still, as far as infernal tootling goes it's...excellent.

I would like to buy the A3 insert. me!

Got a near mint exemplar from this 1965 US pressing.
No surface noise and awesome quality from the time where sound engineerigs know how to record and the labels how to press.

Must-have classic, of course. Fine sound from fine pressing. Can’t be wrong with this one. Naturally it can’t compete with the Analogue Productions 45 rpm in of stage, width and depth. But that’s another league.
