Return To Forever – Light As A Feather

Call this some la-di-da time-capsule of a record if you will, but the truth of the matter is, that this remains one of the truly enjoyable albums of the fusion movement. Where some make me sigh with relief once they're over, this makes me hit play the minute it stops. And that's all i'm going to say about it!

strange "brazilian" edition. don't know if this is a 70's edition... and if this is really from brazil.

Sadly my copy has an awful lot of sibilance all across the record. It's in really nice shape and doesn't appear to have any kind of groove wear or anything, so I'm not sure what's causing it (not a turntable issue.) It especially affects the vocals in "You're Everything" and the cymbals in "Spain." If it wasn't for the excessive top end, this would be a great sounding record.

Picked up a near mint copy of this from a seller in Japan. I have the remastered FLACs from Verve and a (formerly) sealed US 1st pressing from Capitol Scranton, and this copy has the best vinyl (dead quiet and SO dynamic) and mastering (crisp, clean, widest soundstage). If you can snag a clean copy of this, and you love this album as much as I do, buy it with confidence. This is probably the closest to a MoFi or Analogue Productions pressing of this album you can get, sonically speaking. The obi color and alternate artwork is a plus too.

This 24-bit remaster, coming 49 years after its debut, sounds amazing. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. The soundstage is very wide and deep, making speakers nearly disappear. The sound can be as smooth as glass or as sharp as a razor, as the music dictates. Excellent!

When fusion was quite awesome. No chops for chops' sake. A good LP for every collection.

This is a fantastic version. Quiet vinyl, and clear sound across high, mid, and low. No sibilance (Chick's e-piano is distorted as recorded). Lovely!

Chick Corea created with his Return to Forever band another jazz category. First album of RTF was in fact second, because the title album was recorded in spring the same year, but printed in 1975. Plenty of inspirating music full of energy and latin rhythms backed into jazz and bit prog coat. Here with more sweet vocal of Flora Purim. Two tracks appeared on Getz Captain Marvel with the same band - chance to compare. Beautiful last Spain with intro inspired by Rodrigo´s Concierto de Aranjuez. Clark added superb part and solos on double bass which sounds bit like guitar. This pressing has "light as feather" weight, but sounds solid, slightly with sexy distorted Purim´s "s". Anyway must have album and recommended reissue.

This is the first disc with MQA which made me believe that this process has any sense.
