Notes

Recorded February 2 & 3, 1972 at A & R Studios, New York City.

Cat#: ECM 1022 ST on front cover (down right), back cover (top right), spine and center labels.

There exist copies with a second cat#: 2301 022 on a tiny sticker on front cover (top right) which appeared from 1976 with the introduction of the label code, which is printed on the back of the cover at the bottom left (LC 2516).
This cat# appears only there, nowhere else.

These were probably remaining copies from ECM selfdistribution with the cat# of the new distributor on sticker.

the first album i ever bought by Chick was light as a feather back when it was released. one of the greatest fusion albums of all time. i somehow missed out on this one as it came out the year before biut it is every bit as good and in the same mould. Chick was one of the standout jazz musicians of the 20th century, one of the greats! RIP Chick, you gave us so much joy with your misic.

I have the 1972 german pressing, ECM 1022 ST, (near mint) and there is no noise. Just got it and it was super dusty, then gave it a good cleaning. Sounds quiet and clear now.

Is every copy of this record noisy at crap beginning of both sides?? This is my third copy (Amazon, local and now Discogs). As my last effort, I purchased a copy here on Discogs, ECM-1-1022 that looks really clean, Near Mint (NM or M-), but again noisy as crap? It must be pressed into the vinyl. Too bad as this is a pivotal album in the history of Jazz-Fusion!! :(

my copy of this, the 1972 west german release, has an obscene amount of noise. it's not "surface noise"...it sounds like static and the louder or more trebley (ie cymbals) it is the more noise there is. it gets completely quiet in the very quiet ages. my turntable's grounded and no other record has done this. anyone else?

My copy, I believe the U.S. 1975 ECM LP, sounds like crap, lots of noise, almost unplayable, but only in the mellow quite transition section from Sometime Ago to La Fiesta. Really strange. It looks great and sounds good everywhere else. I had it cleaned with spin clean and vaccum clean but still noisy. Maybe I'll have them run it again.

This album really needs a 45 rpm 180 gram audiophile treatment
