A masterpiece. Blew my mind when I first heard Stargazer all those years ago.

Great sounding record! One of the best rock albums from the 70s!

Crisp recording. This is one of the best hard rock albums ever made.

I have variant 1 and unfortunately the sound is a bit thin. Treble is good, but too thin bass.

I’ve always known this album as being mixed with the bass frequencies very low in mix - this is no different. What IS different is that it sounds a million times better than the 2015 reissue…..

Aren't these "stars" editions more or less the UK version of USA "cut-out" ie: discount sale stock rather than it's own unique pressing?

Boy, the reviews are either great or awful for this pressing. My opinion, greatly disappointed. I have CD versions of this album that sound worlds better than this press. For one, there is way too much snap, crackle and pop for a freshly washed disk on its first spin. Totally ruined the keyboard intro on “Tarot Woman”. Like others have said the bottom end just isn’t there and there’s too much treble in the mix. Bright and brassy. It actually hurts my ears. The drum intro to “Stargazer” (the best part of the whole damn album) has been totally neutered without the presence of the bottom end. It should actually knock you off your feet, but not even a tickle to the testicles. And Ronnie’s vocals are so weak. For someone who had a thick, dark and menacing voice, he sounds so one dimensional in this pressing.
The whole album just sounds one dimensional. The balls of this album were in the bottom end, and someone just cut them right off.
I cannot recommend this pressing at all. Avoid it if you can.
Would be a great candidate for a Rhino High Fidelity pressing.

Found a NM copy, still it sounds horrible. I have also tried a reissue from recent days, which is also horrible. I have started to wonder if this album is just very badly mixed. The sound is thin (lacks bass), plus it sounds like it is out of phase - chorus/flanger sounding. Could it be due to the German Oyster lacquer is cut from a second/third generation mastertape copy?
If any owner of an original UK copy would shed some light on the production, please let me know.

Equipment: Genelec 8361A studio monitors. Rega Ania Pro stylus. Rega RP-40 turntable. Rega Aria MK3 RIAA. Macke MS1202VLZPro mixer. The room is calibrated flat. Well produced albums sounds great overall, and audiophile albums sounds outstanding.
