The Roots – Undun

P.O.R.N.'s nihilism really shines on "Undun" given the subject matter, and I'd say right about here is where P.O.R.N. accomplishes the incredible task of outshining Black Thought. P.O.R.N.'s lyrics beginning with "How I Got Over" and peaking here on "Undun" describe the all too familiar reality of the stereotypical Westernized script and the choice of apathy that many find themselves realized in, absconding their true selves to not endure any further rejection from their environment.
P.O.R.N.'s bars on "Undun" are like 16 bars of self-inflicted wounds even more staggering due to P.O.R.N.'s uncanny self-awareness. So underrated.

This is the best version of this record I've heard. The Urban Legends cut was, unfortunately, hugely disappointing because of excessive surface noise (especially during the very quiet portions of the opening track). I went through about 3 of those before I decided to find another pressing entirely, and I ultimately found the 2018 European reissue gave me the best sound overall. Very minimal surface noise, very solid mastering, perfect volume.

Stellar pressing and packaging. The only thing I’m missing is some kind of lyric presentation, especially for such a lyrically dense record.

mine sounds great quiet crisp and clean no faults or background noise

My copy was quite intensely dirty and I had to clean it thoroughly. I then gave it a spin and, to my disappointment, there was a click on every single rotation on the A side, making it impossible to listen. I brought it back to the store. They mentioned it was a matrix issue. So there will most likely be at least 400-500 copies with the same issue as mine. Not sure I'd risk buying another one, sadly.

Can anyone comment on how this sounds? Maybe in comparison to a 1LP pressing?

I have the smoke single lp and it has some crackle, but the sound is pretty solid. Just trying to see if there's a huge difference in how dynamic the album sounds when spread over 2 records.

One of my favourite albums. I was positively surprised how great this pressing is. Beautifully packaged and sounds awesome too. I think it's always 50/50 with the Back to Black pressings but no need to worry about this one. Really happy to finally have this on vinyl!
