referencing Blood, Sweat And Tears (LP, Album, Reissue, Remastered, Stereo, 180 Gram, Gatefold) CS 9720
Theres alot to like about this reissue but it has its flaws too.....
The Pallas press is nigh flawless being flat and quiet. The gatefold is decent and those high quality soft, poly lined inners Pallas use for PP and Speakers Corner have no equal.
However, there are mastering issues. Its cut hotter and brighter than what i like. Its got brilliant soundstaging and theres decent clarity but its not especially refined with my basic VM95E test needle and it lacks warmth. Playing alongside the MoFi One Step really exposes the brighter choice in the mastering/source here. The MoFi puts meat on the bones and tames the top end/presence region while adding dynamic ease and expanse. Its a clear victory for the One Step which it should be at the price (though some One Steps are overpriced disasters lol).
The Pure Pleasure does some stuff really well but its a brighter listen than id usually like. I would strongly recommend a high end needle/tracker that leans warm with a phono stage that doesnt run too brightly. My olde Shure puts some flesh on this that the AT E doesnt but its still a bonded elliptical itself which doesnt like hotness. The AT VM95ML tames the uppers but misses the meat - i cant win lol. Find the right cart/system balance and under those circumstances its recommendable! Maybe a Nag 110 or similar would do the trick. -

Edited 6 months agoIt's hard to believe how cheap you can get this album. One of the most enjoyable albums you will ever own. If you can pick up this pressing in VG+ condition, do so without hesitation. This album will stand the test of time and 100 years from now people will still be listening to it.

I own a few different pressings on LP but this is the best version on any format. A must have for any BST fan.

Honestly a lot better then what I thought. My copy does not sound as good as the original but does sound really nice. Honestly not a half bad bootleg. Only problem is that the label after a few years starts to break down and you get all this blue dust all over your fingers and the record. Not fun.

This 24-bit 176.4-kHz remaster sounds amazing. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. The soundstage is very wide and deep, making speakers nearly disappear. The vocals and instruments are located with laser precision, while sounding utterly natural. This sounds like a High Dynamic Range album, I don't think there's any compression at all. Excellent!
I don't know the back story about how BS&T released 2 landmark albums in 1968...? -
Looks like this isn't a fairly common reissue, but if you acquire a NM copy like mine, expect a dynamic soundstage with a fairly quiet floor, and good bass. Mine was pressed in Terre Haute (T in run-outs).

I have this version, the German original version and the Swedish “Smiling Phases/Spinning Wheel” single, all sounds amazing and it’s my favorite album. I know they were canceled but this IS THE GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME, if you ask me. Hejdå

This pressing needs an ampersand to place it in its correct group, and it makes my collection look sloppy!

Edited one year agoWell opinions...
This isn't a place to post about Chicago, is it? As far as I can tell this is a BS&T album. Having said that, the first 5 Chicago albums are a master class in pure musicianship. Say what you will, but there guitar player was perhaps one of the most understated guitar player in rock history. RIP Terry Kath.
It is quite easy to tear something down, any knuckle dragging gorilla can do so, but it takes a true skilled technician to build and create.
