Lee Morgan – Cornbread

This one was a bit of a miss for me. Track 1 is mastered way too bright, it makes me wince. Track 2 is good overall. Side B has a bunch of noise. Not good.

I was fortunate enough to get a flat record. Vinyl has some ticks, especially on B2, but it is mostly quiet. What is there to say about the sound? Very wide soundstage, decent separation of instruments, with some of the band tightly grouped on the right side of the soundstage and Morgan way over to the left. This is not one of those releases where half the sound comes out of the left speaker and the other half from the right; the piano for one is somewhere near the right-center of the soundstage. Drums and percussion really pop, horns sound great, piano tone not too bad for Blue Note.

Musically, this is Lee Morgan at his best and that's all that needs to be said.

Got a repress, sounds terrific.
Two minor edge warps. So fed up with all the warped records in this series. It also has some kind of machine marks, which is common for RTI, but does not effect sound.

Re: the new issue, I guess they forgot this was a TONE POET release when they went ahead using the typefaces for the CLASSIC SERIES on the spine. Get it right Blue Note FFS, it’s not hard!

First copy had edge warp, second copy side one pressed off center, just awful qc with the press plants Blue Note is using. My 75th copy was flatter and more centered(and the qc was god awful with that series). I won’t buy a new Blue Note anywhere but Amazon which has a relatively easy return process.

Great records, still available at Blue Note, it was well worth the wait!

The line up is amazing, instruments separation, good details and dynamics!

How desperate is everyone to spend that much money on this?! It’s out of stock again but was on stock for 32.99 euros a few weeks ago in Europe. And will be likely be reissued. Basically feeding the greed of people buying to resell.
