Surprisingly punchy for 4ad pressings of this time - the drums and Leslie Langton’s incredible bass lines power through even my crackly old copy. One of the great albums of the 1980s without a doubt.

For me, as with many 4ad artists, the first album is the best. Same with this first, self-titled, "Throwing Muses" album. It's a stunning debut album. Each track is a heartfelt gem.

Raw and abrasive in parts, it can turn a corner and have a moment of unexpected, weird beauty; the ups and downs are pure Kristin Hersh: her state of mind, honesty, ion, bits of anger and gentleness (obviously ed by an amazing band). It all came out perfectly in this first album and is an absolute genius of a classic.

[They continue to create beautiful music. I was just currently listening to Purgatory - some amazing guitar! It prompted me to go back to this beginning.]

A powerful debut of fluid effortless emotional shifts ranging from a startling collision of scary punkabilly energy, angular acoustic post-punk & unsettling folky melodicism fronted by Kristin Hersh's mercurial voice & lyrics. An emotionally charged honest raw album.
Totally essential - a modern classic.

I have fond memories of listening to this album in college.

Weird how early 4ad US bands didn’t get vinyl releases in US but 4ad British bands did!

Such a great debut album! Easily to get sucked into this I really think Throwing Muses is unfairly underrated and deserves WAY more credit than they get. I'm glad they're still making music, albeit minus Tanya Donelly.

Shouldn't the "Country" be not UK since "Made in is printed on the CD?

Different sleeve to UK release as missing Leslie Langston image off the front cover.

My original 4AD vinyl copy is missing Leslie Langston off the front sleeve.
                        Don't know why. Anyone?
