Ancient Methods – Fourth Method

For me, this is quite probably the finest vinyl release of 2009. If nothing else succeeds, just the overall cool look of the 12", and the amazing marbled coloring made it earn its place in my top five list. Well, enough about the looks, let us jump to the music. The A side is a harsh, rusty four to the floor techno dungeon banger with heavy industrial influences and loads of metallic and screeching hisses everywhere. Amazing track, with banging percussion, and a really sinister hook, made of deeply rooted frequencies and crazy, malevolent synth stabs.
B1, is an off-beat odd ball tune with plenty electric current alike sound effects and tricks. It sounds as if you time travelled the guys from the BMB project, placing them in a middle age dungeon, and ordered them to compose a track using whatever it is that they could find in the dark and moist prison cell. Amazing effects, steady and slightly broken percussion, with enough punch and juice to sit along any major release off Mulero's Warm Up imprint.
The last track here is a mildly paced, ticking number, with a pulsating drive and a really captivating hook, which is not that innovative as much as it is really catchy. Actually, this entire track relies on that "grab you right off" factor, and it succeeds, may I add, since my head is in heavy nod rotation ninety seconds deep, and it does not stop until the running time is up. Great stuff, which can work both: the dancefloors or your crew just plain lending an ear to the new music you got.
Great record. You liked any of the previous Ancient Methods vinyls? If yes is the answer, then I don't understand why don't you own this one yet. Likewise, if you liked either Ugandan Methods 12" released on Downwards in 2009, "Seventh seal" EP on the Warm Up imprint, or Surgeon's "Hello Oslo", I urge you to give this a listen. Crunchy and dark, crisp and hypnotic, dance floor action or bed room insanity, whatever, make sure you check this one out.
