These “Original Chess Masters” releases sound very good. This is a very good reissue. Chuck’s guitar and the rhythm section sound great. This works great in its original Mono version. The sound on this is great.

Nice presentation of Chuck Berry's 3rd album with 2 extra tracks. Lots of well-known Berry tunes here (almost plays like "Best of") and also a couple of filler toss-offs... namely "Hey Pedro" and "Blues for Hawaiians". Great pressing too. It's flat, quiet, and centred with no hint of warpage. The record comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve. Cute colourful labels and digitally remastered sound. Analogue purists will probably hate it, but it is perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned. The best I've heard it sound. Lots of info on the back of the jacket including session details, liner notes, a photo of Chuck, a couple of vintage concert posters and other stuff.

Is this pressing in mono or stereo, does anyone know?

Great sounding rocking LP, with a number of Berry classics covered by the Stones and the Beatles! And "Pedro, Hey" is the precursor to Eric Burden's "Spill the Wine." My side 2 matrix runout has "Sheldon" in cursive script. I wonder who that is...

Fantastic pressing! WaxTime or not—these records are very well pressed, well packaged (poly sleeves), and sound great. Are they AAA? Probably not, but for the price and sound, these reissues can’t be beat.

More of a compilation than an album (only Blues for Hawaiians was a new release), "Chuck Berry Is On Top" gathers most of Berry's top hits from the past few years. So, you're guaranteed an excellent, rollicking good time. The sound quality on this "Quality" pressing is very decent! Even with the years of wear on my own copy, the punch comes through clear. If you hadn't gathered his singles and were just getting into buying Long Play albums in 1959, this would have been such a mind-blowing album. One of Berry's greats!

Mine matches the look of the labels and cover, but doesn't have "Sheldon" stamped in the deadwax. Just the hand-etched numbers 9258 and 9259, with a runout groove that dips all the way to the label on each side. Does that make this a distinctly different version?

I'm seeing, on eBay, a varation not yet listed here-- a pressing with the "blue fading to white" label (1966-1970) that would appear to be mono. Would someone who owns that pressing care to do the honors?
